Gentech EP9500HSRE 9.5KVA Honda Powered Generator

What size generator for my Welder

Determining the appropriate generator size for a welding machine is not always a straightforward task. Several factors need to be considered, such as the current draw ratings of the welder, the rated output of the generator, and whether the generator will be used to power other equipment simultaneously.

Here are the recommended Gentech generator sizes for common welder outputs:

  1. Welder with an output up to 160A:
    • Optimal generator size: 8+kVA
    • Minimum generator size: 7kVA
    • Gentech EP8000HSR 8kVA
  1. Welder with an output from 180A to 200A:
    • Optimal generator size: 10+kVA
    • Minimum generator size: 8kVA
    • Gentech EP1000HSRE 11kVA
  1. Welder with a maximum output of 250A:
    • Optimal generator size: 15+kVA
    • Minimum generator size: 13kVA
    • Genetech EP15000HSRE 15kVA

Please note that if the generator is intended to power additional equipment simultaneously with the welder, the generator size should be increased accordingly. These figures serve as approximate guidelines and should not replace the manufacturer's recommendations.

The "minimum" size refers to the smallest generator size suggested to minimize the risk of voltage spikes. However, it may not provide enough power for the welder to achieve its full output.

The "optimal" size further reduces the risk of power supply issues and allows for a higher output from the welder.
